Sculpture
‘My wire sculptures have evolved over time and I now draw a three-dimensional armature with reeled galvanised garden wire, creating a good strong and solid foundation to each artwork. I then weave and mould three 'skins' in and around the form using recycled printed papers and other materials.
The creatures are not painted, they are completed with a final 'skin' of carefully sourced and prepared colour taken from printed or hand made papers and occasionally subtle text.
Any moist areas, such as eyes and noses, are then varnished.
This sculpting technique is very labour intensive, partly due to the sourcing and preparation of all the small pieces of colour taken from the pages of magazines and papers using a technique to avoid any hard white edges.
The papers need to be of a certain thickness and not all work well.
Anybody reading a Sunday supplement (i.e. potential colour source) knows to keep it well out of my way!
Do you have a favourite animal you would like sculpted? All creatures considered.
Commissions welcomed, please allow at least 28 days for your bespoke sculpture to be created.
